Hot Glass Sculpture (2011)

The results of another class at The Visual Arts Center of Richmond working with glass, this time manipulating and scultping hot glass from a glass furnace. The glass has a much firmer texture when worked than the glass used in marble working. Also, work is done outside, given the raw heat of the glass furnace.

In this class we created two glass flowers, one clear and one with color glass flecks, and an abstract sculpture. Work generally took a little longer than lampwork, but the glass stays malleable much longer. Since we worked in shifts, there was less time overall to create pieces, hence the smaller (quantitatively speaking) output than the marble workshop.
