Reliefs (2011)

A couple works from the week-long relief printing workshop at The Visual Arts Center of Richmond. Images are carved into a waxy linoleum-like surface and then rolled with ink. The resulting plate is then pressed onto paper, either by hand or with the rolling press. My first piece, Serpent and Egg, is an improvised carving printed in purple ink on parchment-styled paper. The last piece, Mayan Holiday, are selected Mayan calendar glyphs, with a mask used to ink one glyph in red before the rest was inked in black. This was printed as well on the parchment paper.
