Cylinder

The Cylinder beads are made in much the same way as other beads, only they are gradually rolled and reheated in a cycle that elongates them and gives them their shape. The cylinder beads here were made using different base techniques. The first is a transparent millefiori cylinder (left) made from a clear base rolled in small millefiori pieces that were allowed to melt into the glass. The second is a swirled strand cylinder (left center) made on a lapis base and also ornamented with dots. The third is a capped cane cylinder (right center), the center of the bead being made of twisted cane (the same as in the Cane bead), and the end caps being loops of black glass, each dotted with glowbalt. The last is a pinwheel barrel bead (right), also made from twisted cane. It was initially intended to be a proper pinwheel, which is a flat disc of twisted cane, but it became too molten so I altered it into a barrel, which is a shorter, thicker variant of the cylinder bead.
